Chest in the Attic in 2017

In Spring of 2016, Chest in the Attic was born.  Certainly, I wish I had posted more on here.  Some of the dearth of material is due to me trying to revive an older, more general blog.  Another, more hard-hitting reason, was that 2016 really was a rough year.  We saw a lot of beloved celebrities die, like Alan Rickman and Carrie Fisher to name a few.  We also saw the USA get flipped upside-down and take a mighty blow during the elections.  I won't get too much into politics, as I want this blog to remain as neutral as possible; but a paladin might die from the intensity of his detect evil ability if he used it on our President-Elect.

2016 was also a beautiful time in both my personal life and worldwide.  I got married and began the process of moving into my new house (rent with possibility to buy in the near future), and hearing that global tiger populations rose put a smile on my face.  2016 also marked the beginning of my true adventure into OSR as someone born way after the games the movement seeks to emulate.  I am only 26 years old as of this post, OD&D literally dwarfs me in age.  And yet, many aspects of this venerable game still reverberate and stand true to this day.  It's a search for meaning within my favorite hobby.

I have no clue what 2017 will bring to the gaming table.  Hopefully, my current monetary situation will lend to more money which can hopefully be used to obtain some OSR material for review.  I want to begin DMing at least a d20 game or so, and either livestream it or post videos/blogs about the game.  I have some board games that I wish to also look at.  One of these board games is perfect for a Valentine's Day special.  I want to try to make it to a gaming convention to soak in the experience.  I have done Cons before, but not as a amateur blogger.

I also seek to begin, in earnest, my megadungeon.  The Adamantium Hold has been an idea that has floated in my head for quite a while, and it is about time to begin testing it and writing down what works and what needs to be tweaked.  The Lappit race has been written as a very rough draft; mainly the fluff stuff has anything set in stone.  I think the main hurdle here is that I am no OSR expert.  My extent with the Rules Cyclopedia and older is some old video games and a mini-campaign I ran for myself just to get a real feel of how the old rules worked.  Yet, in these works, I feel I can learn about OSR and the old rules in an almost organic matter.

I hope to catch y'all down along the trail of 2017.  We got more of that good sarsaparilla!
